On the 60th anniversary of his passing, we pay tribute to Pál Járdányi (1920–1966), one of the outstanding figures of 20th-century Hungarian music. A student of Zoltán Kodály, he made a lasting contribution as a composer, ethnomusicologist, educator, and music critic. In his works, he developed the traditions of Hungarian folk music into a deeply personal musical language, while his scholarly research opened new perspectives in the classification and study of folk songs. His students and followers carried forward his intellectual and artistic legacy across generations. Although he passed away at the age of just 46, his oeuvre remains an essential part of Hungary's musical heritage.
